Recycled brick from The Brick Pit creates an eye-catching and environmentally functional feature in this multiple award winning modern Queenslander by Thirdson Constructions featured on Australia’s Best Houses.
A wall of recycled brick, peppered with graffiti bricks in green and blue, forms the central spine that runs the length of the house. The wall of solid recycled bricks provides thermal mass, catching the winter sun and keeping the house cosy in the cooler months, but not the hot summer sun which is higher in the sky.
The home, seen on Australia’s Best Houses, won House of the Year in the 2014 Queensland Regional Architecture Awards and also the Gold Award for Excellence in Design in the 2013 Ipswich City Council Awards.
