2011 National Architecture Awards Winner

In 2007 the visionary Neeson Murcutt Architects visited The Brick Pit seeking a cooperation on a very special project. Although we had successfully worked together on the award winning Shipwreck Project at Homebush Bay, the team at The Brick Pit never dreamed the latest adventure would lead to such high accolades. As we walked through our yard exploring the vast range of recycled bricks, the Neeson Murcutt Team became excited at the many possibilities. Naturally their excitement made us excited too. We soon agreed to set up a dedicated work area in support of the project which was an old tin shed at the back of our Holroyd site. As crude as the area was, the boys from the The Brick Pit hauled in bricks whilst an extremely skilled bricklayer weaved his magic with the trowel. Upon completion, several proud sample walls stood in the middle of the floor, giving the old shed some new life. The Neeson Murcutt Team visited a short time later, viewed the walls, took photos and that was it. That was it until many months later we got a call confirming the project got the "green light" and we were going to supply the bricks. The Brick Pit happily got the bricks together to match their specification, transported them to site and our piece of the puzzle was complete. We went about our daily business life whilst their team did the same. Much to our surprise, whilst watching Better Homes & Gardens Television Show on November 4th, we learned that Neeson Murcutt Architects had won the Robin Boyd Award for Castlecrag House, Australia's Best Residential House Design. The Brick Pit wishes to congratulate The Neesen Murcutt Team on their incredible success, and we are proud to have played a small part in their big picture.
